Former Kano Deputy Governor Gwarzo Resigns from NNPP

KANO, NIGERIA – A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafizu Abubakar Gwarzo, has resigned his membership from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing personal reasons.

Gwarzo, who served as deputy to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the party’s leadership in his ward. He did not disclose his next political destination.

“After due consultation and deep reflection, I have decided to resign my membership from the NNPP effective immediately,” the letter read.

His resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano State, where the NNPP has been grappling with internal tensions between the Kwankwasiyya movement and other factions within the party.

Gwarzo, a seasoned politician and academic, was elected on the NNPP ticket in 2023 before falling out with the party leadership. Sources close to him suggest he may be considering a move to another political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NNPP leadership in Kano has yet to officially respond to his resignation. Political observers are watching closely to see if other party chieftains will follow suit.
