Accord Party Disowns Ibadan Coalition, Threatens Legal Action Over ‘Embarrassing’ Inclusion

The leadership of the Accord Party has formally distanced itself from the opposition coalition meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, where leaders from 14 political parties reportedly resolved to field a single presidential candidate in the 2027 general election .

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Omorogbe, the party said it was “not aware of the coalition meeting” and did not send any representative to attend or endorse any of the resolutions reached .

“It is imprudent and unjust to include a political party in a coalition it was not a part of,” the statement read . “Accord is embarrassed by the reckless action of the organisers and demands that its name be expunged immediately”.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that The party’s reaction was echoed by its two major factions. The Chris Imumolen-led faction described the inclusion of the party’s flag in the coalition as “political impersonation and misrepresentation,” insisting it was “not a misunderstanding” .

Imumolen issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the conveners of the Ibadan meeting to publicly explain how and why the party’s identity was used without consent, warning that failure to do so would “trigger immediate legal action against all individuals and groups involved” .

The Accord Party maintained that it is not part of any coalition involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or any aligned bloc .

It stressed that it remains focused on winning the upcoming Ekiti and Osun governorship elections and preparing for the 2027 general elections under its own banner .
