2027: Jonathan Remains a PDP Member, Turaki-Led Faction Insists Firmly

The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm, categorical, and unequivocal declaration that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan remains a fully registered, bonafide, and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party — dismissing with force and finality the swirling speculation, rumours, and reports suggesting that the former President has either defected or is planning to abandon the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction, speaking through its authorised spokesperson, insisted that former President Jonathan’s membership of the PDP is not in question, not negotiable, and not subject to the manipulative narratives being deliberately circulated by political opponents and mischief makers seeking to create confusion, division, and despondency within the party’s ranks.

“Let us be absolutely clear — former President Goodluck Jonathan is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. He has not left the party, he has not indicated any intention to leave, and we will not allow any individual or group to use his name to destabilise or mislead our members and supporters,” the Turaki faction declared with unmistakable conviction.

The statement comes amid intense and growing speculation about former President Jonathan’s political future as Nigeria’s 2027 electoral season accelerates — with various political parties and pressure groups reportedly making overtures to the former President, fuelling rumours about a possible presidential comeback bid under a platform other than the PDP.

The Turaki faction’s insistence on Jonathan’s continued PDP membership also carries significant implications for the party’s internal power dynamics, as the former President’s endorsement — or defection — could decisively tilt the balance of power within the deeply divided PDP in favour of one faction over another.

Jonathan himself has maintained characteristic silence on the mounting speculation surrounding his political future, neither publicly confirming his continued PDP loyalty nor addressing the rumours of a possible defection — a calculated ambiguity that has only served to intensify the political guessing game surrounding one of Nigeria’s most respected and internationally recognised former leaders.

Political analysts warn that the PDP’s continued factional crisis — with the Turaki and Wike blocs locked in a bitter and unresolved power struggle — makes the party’s ability to retain high-profile members like former President Jonathan increasingly fragile and uncertain.
As 2027 draws closer, the question of where Goodluck Jonathan ultimately stands politically remains one of the most fascinating, consequential, and unresolved questions in Nigerian politics.
