UMUAHIA – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has secured commitments from Abia political leaders that the Igbo will rally behind President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, correcting what they described as past electoral miscalculations.
The assurance came during Kalu’s New Year homage to APC chieftain Senator Chris Adighije in Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA, where community leaders pledged widespread support for the Tinubu administration.
Senator Adighije stated:
“Last time, we got it wrong, and we should not repeat the same mistake… This message of goodwill from President Bola Tinubu has penetrated the entire Olokoro.”
In his response, Deputy Speaker Kalu urged Ndigbo to “invest” their votes wisely, describing votes as the “currency” for political dividends.
“It’s about time the Igbos began to buy shares in our democracy, so that we can ask for dividends… Let us have a handshake with the southwest, so that when our own time comes, we will ask them to return the match,” Kalu emphasized.
In a separate visit, former Abia lawmaker Hon. Chukwudi Apugo praised Kalu’s legislative impact, particularly his role in the passage of the South-East Development Commission Bill, and pledged his support.
Kalu also formally invited Apugo to join the APC to strengthen the party’s base in Abia.
