NBA Probes Branch Chairman Over Appointment of Ex-Convict as Patron

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has commenced an investigation into one of its branch Chairmen for the controversial appointment of a former convict as a patron of the association.

According to sources within the NBA’s national body, the decision has sparked significant internal dissent and raised serious ethical concerns regarding the image and standards of the legal profession.

The individual appointed, whose identity is currently withheld, is confirmed to have a past criminal conviction. The nature of the conviction and the subsequent appointment have prompted the national leadership to summon the branch Chairman for explanations.

In a brief statement, the NBA National Secretariat acknowledged the probe, stating it is “looking into the circumstances surrounding the appointment to ensure strict adherence to the association’s code of conduct and uphold its integrity.”

Legal practitioners across the country have expressed mixed reactions, with many calling for stringent measures to protect the association’s reputation. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the NBA disciplinary committee reviews the case.
