UMUAHIA – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has stated that any decision regarding his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections will be guided by his political party, not by public pressure or media speculation.
Reacting to growing calls for him to contest the Abia State governorship in 2027, Kalu emphasized the supremacy of party structure in determining candidacy for such a high office. “Whether or not pressure comes from the people or my constituents, accepting to run for any office is beyond personal sentiments. My political party is supreme, and that is the truth,” Kalu stated during a media chat in Abia State.
He highlighted the distinct nature of a governorship race, noting it requires statewide consensus. “A governor must be accepted across the entire state, not just by a federal constituency,” he explained. Kalu also addressed the intense scrutiny of political life, advising that those unprepared for misrepresentation and media speculation should avoid the arena.
The Deputy Speaker dismissed persistent narratives about his ambition, stating, “God will keep writing my story. Some people will write what sells their newspapers, blogs etc, but that does not change the truth.” He reaffirmed that his path would be determined by party discipline, service, and due process.
