A former lawmaker, Rep. Sir Sam Onuigbo, has congratulated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, on his conferment as the Legislator of the Year 2025 by Leadership Newspapers.
In a glowing tribute, Onuigbo described Kalu as a “legislative torchbearer” whose background in law and public policy has distinguished him in the 10th Assembly.
“It is not for nothing that you hail from God’s Own State, Abia. By preparation, comportment and carriage, you have continued to hold aloft the torch of excellence,” Onuigbo stated.
The award recognizes Kalu’s exceptional productivity in lawmaking, including over 120 bills sponsored, spanning virtually every sector of governance. Onuigbo, himself a recipient of the Most Valuable Parliamentarian award, noted that the recognition was based on Kalu’s intellectual depth, inclusivity, and peace-building initiatives that advance national unity.
“Findings have shown that only few lawmakers in Nigeria’s modern history have matched your legislative productivity,” he added.
