Ekiti, Osun Governorship Polls Crucial Test for APC — Party Chieftain

OSOGBO, NIGERIA — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has declared that the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States will serve as a crucial test for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, stated that the APC must secure victory in both states to position itself strongly for the presidential poll scheduled just months after the state elections
. The Ekiti governorship election is fixed for June 20, while Osun voters will head to the polls on August 15.

Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Oyintiloye emphasized that a landslide victory in the two states would consolidate President Bola Tinubu’s impending victory in the 2027 elections and further confirm the dominance of the APC in Nigeria’s political space.

“The Ekiti and Osun elections will serve as a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country. The two are very crucial for the APC because they will be conducted a few months before the general elections. The party must win the two states,” Oyintiloye said.

He noted that victories in both states would boost the party’s confidence and solidify its supremacy in the nation’s political landscape.

Specifically addressing the Osun election, Oyintiloye described it as peculiar because the APC aims to unseat the incumbent governor, a task he said the party is ready for
. He expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as capable, reliable, and acceptable to the majority of party members.

Oyintiloye acknowledged the tireless efforts of party leaders, including Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, and National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, in working towards the party’s victory.

He appealed to aggrieved APC members to set aside their grievances and work for a victorious outing for Oyebamiji, emphasizing that the contributions of all party members would be key to the party’s success at the polls.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been affirmed as the APC’s consensus candidate following a unanimous decision by 885 delegates, with the party expressing confidence in retaining the governorship seat.
