ABAkALIKI, NIGERIA — The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, has charged newly admitted students to report any cases of sexual harassment, extortion, ‘sex-for-marks’, and other unethical behaviours to the appropriate authorities for prompt action .
The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge during the institution’s 14th matriculation ceremony, where a total of 5,227 freshmen were formally admitted into the university. He warned that the management has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and all forms of misconduct which undermine the university’s core values of excellence and integrity .
“Please, report any of the above offences to the appropriate university authorities (Chief Security Officer, Dean, Students’ Affairs, Director, SERVICOM, etc) and we assure you of prompt action, and the protection of your identity. We also have suggestion boxes around the campus; feel free to drop your complaints, and it will be dealt with expeditiously,” Nwachukwu told the students .
He emphasized that the university is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for students and expects them to uphold the highest standards of conduct and respect for one another, especially the staff and people of the host community .
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed plans to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the academic curriculum to ensure students remain abreast with global trends. He assured that hardworking and innovative students would be rewarded under his leadership .
