KANO, NIGERIA – A Kano woman who recently delivered quintuplets has tragically passed away, plunging the family and community into mourning.
The woman, whose identity has been withheld pending family notification, gave birth to five babies at a hospital in Kano last week. While the infants were reported to be in stable condition, the mother reportedly suffered complications following the delivery and died on Thursday, according to hospital sources.
Medical officials confirmed that the woman had been under intensive care after the multiple births but succumbed to complications related to the high-risk pregnancy.
The Kano State Government has expressed condolences to the family and pledged to cover the medical expenses incurred during the hospitalization. The government also assured that the five newborns would receive necessary care and support.
“This is a heartbreaking loss. We stand with the family during this difficult time,” a state official said.
Multiple births, particularly quintuplets, are rare and often carry significant health risks for both mother and children. The case has drawn attention to the need for enhanced maternal healthcare and emergency response systems for high-risk pregnancies across the country.
The infants remain under medical observation.
