Rivers Police Probe Gruesome Murder of Woman in Port Harcourt

PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA – The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a woman who was fatally shot in a suspected targeted attack in Port Harcourt.

According to a police statement, the victim, identified simply as Special Bensington, was attacked on March 19, 2026, at about 7:00 PM while she and a friend were returning from a hotel along Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road. The victims had boarded a Bolt ride when unknown armed hoodlums, suspected to have trailed them from the hotel, opened fire on them using a tricycle.

The victim sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to BMH Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on March 21 while receiving treatment. The second victim, Miss Divine Anyanwu, survived the attack and reported the incident at Abuloma Police Division.

The Divisional Police Officer and his team visited both the scene and the hospital. The deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet forensic investigation.

“The Command strongly condemns this gruesome act and assures the public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice,” said Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko.
