Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Urges Protest Against Alleged Admission Bias

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on parents and qualified candidates to protest against alleged admission bias in tertiary institutions across the country.

The examination body raised concerns over what it described as unfair practices in the admission process, noting that some qualified candidates are being denied admission despite meeting required cut-off marks and criteria.

According to JAMB, such actions undermine merit and transparency in Nigeria’s education system.

Officials urged affected candidates and their guardians to speak out and demand accountability from institutions found to be engaging in discriminatory or biased admission processes.

They emphasized that the admission system is designed to ensure equal opportunity for all eligible applicants, regardless of background or region.

The board further warned institutions to adhere strictly to established admission guidelines, stressing that any deviation could attract sanctions.

JAMB reiterated its commitment to monitoring the process and ensuring compliance with policies aimed at promoting fairness.

Education stakeholders have reacted to the development, with some supporting the call for protest as a means of addressing systemic challenges, while others advocate for dialogue and institutional reforms to resolve the issue.

The move comes amid ongoing debates about access to higher education in Nigeria, as thousands of candidates compete annually for limited admission slots.
