Intense Political Maneuvering as Niger APC Scraps Guber Zoning, Throws Race Open

Minna, Nigeria – In a dramatic twist that has set the state’s political landscape ablaze, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has officially scrapped its zoning arrangement for the governorship position ahead of the 2027 elections.

This decision follows intense political maneuvering as Niger APC scraps guber zoning, a move that effectively nullifies earlier agreements that rotated the top seat among the state’s three senatorial zones. Party sources confirmed that the new directive allows any qualified indigene from any zone to contest, throwing the race wide open.

The announcement has triggered mixed reactions. Governor Umaru Bago’s loyalists argue that scrapping zoning promotes merit and competition. However, leaders from Zone B and C, who were next in line under the previous rotation formula, have described the move as a betrayal.

“This is not just a policy shift; it is a power play. The intense political maneuvering as Niger APC scraps guber zoning will define who controls the party’s structure in 2027,” said political analyst Hajiya Aisha Bello.

Insiders reveal that the decision followed a closed-door meeting in Minna, where influential godfathers pushed for an open race to weaken a rival faction. As loyalties realign, the APC now faces the challenge of preventing a post-primary implosion.

The opposition PDP has already seized on the development, calling it proof of internal crisis within the ruling party.
