Umuahia Property Controversy: Widow Cries Takeover, But Family Allegedly Sold Novotel Hotel for ₦300m

A heated property dispute is unfolding in Umuahia, Abia State, after Mrs. Nkechinyere Ndukwe appeared in an emotional video, crying and pleading with the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for help, claiming someone was trying to take over her late husband’s property at No. 62 Mission Hill.

But documents obtained by CDA News Nigeria tell a different story.

According to sources close to the transaction, the property—formerly Novotel Hotel—was not taken but sold by the family for ₦300 million. The sale allegedly followed pressure from Keystone Bank Aba over an ₦80 million loan. A private individual, Mr. Chimezie Nwachukwu, reportedly stepped in to prevent a cheap auction.

The family, including Mrs. Ndukwe and her children, consented to the sale. Payments were made in installments until the full ₦300 million was paid. A signed acknowledgment of payment issued by her son, Hon. Obinna Ndukwe (Elroi Gene Ration), confirms receipt of the full amount for the property.

Critics question how a concluded, documented transaction is now being presented as a takeover. It is also alleged that the same individuals have been removing doors and windows from the property while playing victims.

“The truth is simple: the property was sold. The money was paid. The agreement was documented,” a source stated.

Mrs. Ndukwe has yet to respond publicly to these allegations.
