Iran Threatens to Strike US Forces in Hormuz After Trump’s Escort Plan Announcement

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply as Iran has issued a fierce warning that it will attack United States military forces in the Strait of Hormuz, following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a plan to deploy US naval escorts for oil tankers passing through the strategically vital waterway.

Iranian military and government officials made clear that any American naval presence aimed at escorting vessels through the Strait would be considered a direct provocation and met with forceful military response.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes daily, has long been a flashpoint between Washington and Tehran, with Iran repeatedly threatening to block the chokepoint during periods of heightened diplomatic friction.

Trump’s escort plan, believed to be designed to safeguard global oil flows and reassert American dominance in the region, has drawn immediate and aggressive pushback from Tehran, raising fears of a potential military confrontation at sea.

Global oil markets reacted nervously to the development, with analysts warning that any armed conflict in the Strait could trigger an immediate spike in crude oil prices worldwide — dealing a significant blow to already fragile global economies.

Diplomatic observers are urging maximum restraint from both sides as the situation continues to deteriorate rapidly.
