Starmer Under Fire: UK Minister Davies-Jones Resigns, Demands Exit Timeline

LONDON — Mounting pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer has intensified following the resignation of Alex Davies-Jones, the UK Minister for Victims and Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, making her the third government minister to quit today.

Davies-Jones, a junior Justice Minister, submitted her resignation letter on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, urging Starmer to “act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure” following Labour’s “catastrophic” local election losses.

Her departure, alongside Jess Phillips and Miatta Fahnbulleh, comes as more than 80 Labour MPs demand a leadership change.

Davies-Jones, a Welsh MP for Pontypridd, described the decision as taken with a “heavy heart,” stating that “bold, radical action” is now required for the party’s future.Despite the rebellion, Starmer has pledged to remain in office, ignoring calls for a resignation timetable.
