Makinde-Backed PDP in Massive Screening Exercise as Hundreds of Guber, Senate and Reps Aspirants Queue for 2027 Tickets

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has launched a sweeping phased screening exercise for governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives aspirants across the country, as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The screening exercise is being conducted in phases, with State House of Assembly aspirants screened on May 15, House of Representatives and Senate aspirants on May 16, and governorship and presidential aspirants billed for May 18, with appeals slated for May 21, 2026.

The Makinde-backed Interim National Working Committee, led by Tanimu Turaki SAN as chairman and Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary, is coordinating the exercise in line with the faction’s approved timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026/2027 elections.

The party pegged its presidential nomination form at ₦100 million and the governorship at ₦40 million, while Senate forms cost ₦10 million, House of Representatives ₦7 million, and State Assembly ₦2 million. Female aspirants are only required to pay expression of interest fees, while youths and persons living with disabilities receive a 50 per cent discount on nomination forms.

Among the governorship aspirants already screened are those from Oyo, Abia, Enugu and other states, with aspirants using the opportunity to criticise current administrations and outline their governance visions for their respective states.

Following the screening, ward congresses and primaries will take place in late May, culminating in a special national convention on May 30 to ratify all candidates. The exercise underscores the Makinde camp’s determination to consolidate the PDP ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 election cycle.
