NDLEA seizes cocaine UK Australia destroys 65000kg skunk Delta State 2026

Nigeria’s anti-narcotics agency has recorded a major operational week, intercepting international drug shipments and razing thousands of kilograms of cannabis across multiple states.

Operatives of the NDLEA intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed in the walls of cartons at a courier company in Lagos on May 15, 2026, during the examination of outbound shipments. A total of 170 grams of cocaine was found hidden inside a carton of clothing heading to Australia, while another consignment was seized from a parcel bound for the United Kingdom.

In Delta State, the agency mounted a massive onslaught on cannabis cultivation. NDLEA operatives raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani LGA on May 10, destroying 27,500 kilograms of skunk on 11 hectares of farmland and recovering an additional 22.9kg, while a 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested in a follow-up operation in Obiaruku. A separate raid at Orogun village in Ughelli North LGA on May 12 led to the destruction of 37,500 kilograms of skunk across 15 hectares and the arrest of 30-year-old Godwin Vincent Osadera, bringing the total weight destroyed in Delta to 65,000 kilograms. Other operations across the country yielded 105,850 opioid pills seized in Taraba State, 361kg of skunk recovered in Zaria, Kaduna, and 181kg seized in Ogun State. In the FCT, a 29-year-old businessman was arrested for producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties in Abuja.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised officers across all commands for balancing enforcement with drug demand reduction and advocacy campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
