Tension in Abuja as DSS Operative Allegedly Shoots, Kills Two Residents

ABUJA – A cloud of tension hangs over the Federal Capital Territory following an incident where an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly opened fire on residents of Karmajiji village, resulting in two deaths and one critical injury.

The shooting occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026. The DSS operative, identified as Ajayi Abayomi, reportedly fired his weapon, striking three men. According to a police source, the bullet first hit Musa Adamu, who died hours later, then passed through Mallam Suleiman Salisu, who succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, January 28, before lodging in the hand of Abdullahi Ahmed, who remains in critical condition.

A family member of one of the deceased stated, “May Allah compensate my brother for losing his life to the carelessness of a DSS officer who shot him without any provocation.” The relative confirmed the family is seeking justice.

The police source disclosed that the operative claimed the shooting was accidental, but fled after the incident and has since refused to honour a police invitation for investigation. The victims were reportedly engaged in their lawful activities when the shooting occurred.

The tragic incident has sparked grief and anger in the community, raising serious concerns about the use of force and accountability within security agencies. The police investigation continues as calls for justice for the victims grow louder.
