LAGOS – Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been officially confirmed as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
His confirmation on Wednesday followed the formal resignation of the former chairman, Tunde Azeez, who cited persistent health challenges as his reason for stepping down.
Abdul-Ganiyu had been serving as the Acting Chairman since Azeez proceeded on medical leave shortly after the administration was sworn in on July 27, 2025.
The Leader of the Legislative House, Adeshina Haruna, read the resignation letter to the councilors, who subsequently voted unanimously to confirm Abdul-Ganiyu as the new chairman.
Lawmakers defended the decision, citing his experience in an acting capacity and the need to maintain uninterrupted governance. They described his appointment as “a testament to his credibility and experience.”
This confirmation comes after Abdul-Ganiyu was initially dropped as the party’s candidate for the 2025 local government elections due to opposition against his candidacy.
