The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global public health emergency following a deadly Ebola resurgence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the outbreak has claimed at least 88 lives and continues to spread across multiple provinces.
“Nigeria’s health agencies are leaving nothing to chance — surveillance at all land and air entry points has been significantly intensified.”
In response, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health has directed the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to activate elevated border screening at all major ports of entry, particularly along the country’s northern and western corridors. Health officials are also briefing state-level response teams and restocking isolation facilities.
Authorities are urging Nigerians to avoid non-essential travel to affected Congo regions and to report any suspected symptoms — including high fever, unexplained bleeding, or severe fatigue — to the nearest health facility immediately.
