Kwara Church Attack: Adesanya-Davies Mourns Slain Worshippers, Demands Urgent National Action Against Terrorism

Former Presidential Candidate, distinguished academic, clergywoman, and peace advocate, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has expressed profound sorrow and outrage following the gruesome killing of worshippers during a church night vigil in Kwara State — demanding urgent and decisive national action against terrorism, kidnapping, and religiously motivated violence across Nigeria.
Heavily armed terrorists stormed a prayer ground at Ori-Oke Ajaiye in the outskirts of Ikiran Village, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, during a night vigil — killing three worshippers and abducting approximately fifteen others in a savage attack that has sent shockwaves of fear and grief across the Christian community and the entire nation.

Speaking from Port Harcourt, Prof. Adesanya-Davies — Secretary of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) and Secretary General (BOT) of the United Nations POLAC — described the attack in the strongest possible terms.

“It is heartbreaking that people can no longer worship freely in peace and safety within their own nation. Attacking worshippers during prayers is an evil act against God Himself. This continuous bloodshed in Nigeria must stop,” she declared with deep emotion.

The renowned peace ambassador described the assault as “barbaric, satanic, wicked, and an affront against God and humanity” — stressing that no political, ideological, or criminal motive can ever justify the slaughter of innocent souls gathered in prayer.
Prof. Adesanya-Davies called urgently on the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to rise decisively against the tide of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping — urging immediate intensification of intelligence gathering, strengthening of local security architecture, and the swift rescue of all abducted worshippers.

The peace advocate also issued a powerful appeal to Christians across Nigeria and the international community to pray fervently for divine intervention, national healing, and the restoration of peace — drawing comfort and strength from Scripture:
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me.” — Psalm 23:4
Prof. Adesanya-Davies extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Christian community in Kwara State, and all affected victims — praying for God’s comfort upon the families of the deceased and the speedy and safe release of those abducted.

She warned that persistent attacks on worship centres and innocent citizens pose a grave threat to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and peaceful coexistence — emphasising that urgent national restructuring of security strategies has become not just necessary but absolutely imperative.

“The time has come for all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or religion, to unite against terror, violence, kidnapping, and bloodshed. Nigeria must not become a nation where citizens live perpetually in fear,” she declared passionately.

Reports indicate that some churches in the affected area have temporarily suspended services following the attack, as fear grips residents and worshippers across the communities.

Security agencies have reportedly launched rescue operations for the abducted victims, though no official update on the operation had been released at the time of filing this report.

CDA News Nigeria extends its deepest condolences to all the families affected by this tragic and senseless attack.
