AKURE — The Ondo State Government and the State Police Command have dismissed social media reports alleging a bandit invasion and the kidnapping of students in schools within Akure metropolis and Odigbo Local Government Area, urging residents to remain calm .
In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s spokesman, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said security agencies including the Police, Amotekun Corps, and DSS had verified there was no record of any kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in the state capital .
“All schools in the state capital are safe, open, and conducting academic activities without disruption,” Adeniyan stated .
The clarification follows panic that led some parents to withdraw children from schools in Ore, Odigbo LGA, after unverified rumours of an impending bandit attack .
Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed no security breach had occurred. However, Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered heightened surveillance and visibility policing around schools and public facilities across the state .
Authorities warned that spreading false information capable of causing public disorder is a crime, and offenders will be prosecuted . Residents are urged to report genuine security concerns to the nearest police station or Amotekun office .
