Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that sponsors of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria must be exposed and brought to justice, vowing that the Senate will support every effort to unmask those financing insecurity.
Speaking on Monday at the opening of a security summit in Abuja, Akpabio said Nigeria cannot win the war against terror unless the financial networks behind criminal elements are dismantled.
“Those who sit in comfort while they fund the killing and kidnapping of innocent Nigerians must be exposed. No sacred cows,” Akpabio stated.
He called on security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering on terror financiers and urged the executive to fast-track the implementation of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, which includes provisions for prosecuting sponsors.
The Senate President also revealed that the upper chamber would summon relevant agencies to provide updates on past investigations into suspected sponsors.
“We must follow the money. That is how this terror will end,” he added.
