Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a betrayal of progressive ideals and poor governance.
In a letter addressed to her ward chairman in Abeokuta, Ogun State, dated June 7, 2026, Obasanjo stated that her decision followed “deep reflection and disillusionment with the direction of the party at both state and national levels.”
“The APC I joined no longer exists. What remains is a structure built on impunity, economic mismanagement, and disregard for the masses,” she wrote.
Iyabo, a public health expert and former governorship aspirant in Ogun State, did not immediately announce which political party she would be joining. However, political observers suggest she may be considering the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or Labour Party ahead of 2027.
Efforts to reach APC national leadership for comment were unsuccessful as of press time. Meanwhile, Ogun State APC chapter described her exit as “unfortunate but inconsequential.”
