ABUJA, Nigeria – At the inaugural West African Science and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) conference, Nigeria has called for a continental shift from climate dialogue to decisive action.
Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal challenged African governments and experts to transform scientific research into actionable policies. He emphasized that the continent must build a resilient, low-carbon future based on evidence-based strategies that suit its unique realities.
The minister reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to a just energy transition, highlighting its plan to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 while ensuring universal energy access by 2030.
The conference, attended by participants from 20 countries, aims to generate practical solutions for sustainable climate resilience in Africa.
