The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has categorically denied any involvement in the alleged financial controversy surrounding the ₦18.6 billion National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) headquarters project.
In a statement released by his media office on Monday, Speaker Abbas described recent allegations made by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) as “factually incorrect and misleading.”
The statement clarified that all contractual and procurement matters within the National Assembly are handled by the administrative bureaucracy, which operates independently of the political leadership. It emphasized that the NASC project was “conceived, awarded, and contractually executed long before the emergence of the current leadership of the House.”
The Speaker’s office urged civil society organizations and the media to respect institutional boundaries and verify facts before attributing administrative decisions to political officeholders.
