Nationwide Shutdown Looms as Falana, Civil Society Groups Set June 25 Protest

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and a coalition of over 450 civil society organisations (CSOs) have declared a nationwide protest to demand urgent government action over worsening insecurity and economic hardship.

The coalition, under the aegis of the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for National Peace and Stability, disclosed its plans at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, saying the protest will hold on June 25, 2026, across all state capitals and the Federal Capital Territory.

“We can no longer keep quiet while innocent Nigerians are kidnapped, killed, and displaced daily. The government has failed to protect lives and property. Enough is enough,” a spokesperson for the coalition said.

The protesters are demanding the immediate redeployment of security chiefs, the declaration of a state of emergency in the most affected states, and concrete measures to curb the rising cost of living.

Falana, who has joined the coalition as a strategic partner, called on the government to listen to the voice of the people before it is too late.

The Federal Government has yet to respond to the planned protest. Police authorities have advised organisers to follow all legal protocols to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
