Former Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), Brigadier-General Kunle Togun (retd.), has accused governors in Nigeria’s South-West region of playing politics with critical security matters.
Togun expressed concern over what he described as the politicisation of security challenges, warning that the safety of lives and property should remain above political interests and partisan considerations.
According to the retired military officer, effective collaboration among federal, state, and local authorities is necessary to address the growing security threats confronting the region and the country at large.
He urged political leaders to adopt practical measures, strengthen intelligence gathering, and support security agencies with the resources needed to combat criminal activities.
The former intelligence chief stressed that insecurity requires a united approach, noting that divisions and political rivalries could undermine efforts aimed at protecting citizens.
His remarks come amid renewed debates over state policing, regional security initiatives, and the responsibilities of sub-national governments in tackling insecurity.
