Governor Seyi Makinde has disclosed that the students and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State are still being held within the Old Oyo National Park.
Makinde said security agencies have intensified efforts to rescue the victims, noting that ongoing operations are focused on tracking the abductors and securing the safe return of those in captivity.
The governor had earlier confirmed that gunmen attacked three schools in the Ahoro-Esinle/Yawota axis, abducting seven teachers and dozens of pupils. He also revealed that one of the abducted teachers was killed by the assailants while in captivity.
According to the governor, an operational centre has been established to coordinate rescue efforts involving the police and other security agencies. He assured families of the victims that the government remains committed to exhausting all available measures to bring their loved ones home safely.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity and renewed calls for stronger protection of schools and rural communities across the country. Authorities have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
