Pregnant Women Stranded as Collapsed Bridge Isolates Gombe Community from Healthcare Services

Residents of a remote community in Gombe State are facing growing hardship after a collapsed bridge severed access to nearby healthcare facilities, leaving pregnant women and other vulnerable groups stranded.

The damaged bridge, which serves as a vital link between the community and essential services, reportedly collapsed following heavy rainfall and erosion, making movement difficult and, in some cases, impossible.

Community members said pregnant women requiring antenatal care and emergency medical attention have been among the worst affected, with many forced to seek alternative routes that are longer, unsafe, and costly.

Local residents expressed concern that the situation could lead to preventable health complications if urgent intervention is not provided.

They appealed to the state government and relevant authorities to immediately rehabilitate the bridge and restore access to healthcare, education, and economic activities.

Health workers in the area also warned that delayed access to medical services could place the lives of expectant mothers, children, and elderly residents at risk.

The development has renewed calls for increased investment in rural infrastructure to ensure communities remain connected to essential public services.

As residents await government intervention, many continue to struggle with the daily challenges created by the collapse of the critical bridge.
