Political watchers in Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency are increasingly asking a pointed question: why is Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Labour Party member representing the constituency, investing energy attacking a potential 2027 challenger instead of accounting for his own three-year legislative record?
Aguocha was elected in 2023 on a wave of voter optimism. Three years on, constituents say the dividends of that mandate remain largely invisible — no landmark constituency project, no verifiable legislative bill of local impact, and no published record of constituency development allocations.
Political analysts argue that a lawmaker confident in his record has no reason to make campaigns about his opponents. The shift in focus from self-assessment to personal attacks, they say, is itself a confession of underperformance.
“The people of Ikwuano/Umuahia did not send Aguocha to Abuja to fight Chinedum Orji — they sent him to fight poverty and underdevelopment,” one community leader in Ikwuano told CDA News. “Let him show us what he has done with three years and our trust.”
With 2027 approaching, voters appear ready to demand scorecards — not mudslinging. Aguocha’s challenge now is simple: defend the record, not deflect from it.
