MAIDUGURI — Borno State has clinched the overall male champion title at the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, hosted in Maiduguri.
The results, announced on Saturday by Professor Abubakar Yelwa of Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, saw Musa Ahmed Musa from Borno emerge as the overall male champion. Hafsat Muhammad Sada from Kano State secured the overall title in the female category.
The week-long competition featured 296 contestants from 30 states across six categories.
Governor Babagana Zulum, addressing attendees at the closing ceremony, stated that hosting the prestigious event was a profound affirmation of the state’s enduring commitment to peace and education.
“The successful hosting of this national event is a clear signal to the world. Borno is back, Borno is safe and Borno is a centre for learning and spiritual growth,” Governor Zulum declared.
He congratulated all participants, emphasizing that the true spirit of the competition lies in the noble pursuit of knowledge. The governor also expressed appreciation to the Vice President, state governors, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries who attended the event.
The ceremony was graced by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima; the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Dikko Radda; the Shehu of Borno, and other prominent figures.
