Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has appeared before a Federal High Court over allegations of certificate forgery, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the case stems from allegations concerning the authenticity of academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials allegedly submitted by the former minister during his nomination and confirmation process for public office.
During the court proceedings, Nnaji denied all allegations of forgery, insisting that he had committed no offence. Through his legal team, he maintained that the accusations are unfounded and expressed confidence that the judicial process would establish his innocence.
The prosecution, however, urged the court to proceed with the trial, arguing that the charges were supported by evidence gathered during investigations conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The case has been adjourned to a later date for the continuation of proceedings.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the legal proceedings have attracted significant public attention because of Nnaji’s previous role in the Federal Executive Council. The outcome of the case is expected to have political and legal implications, while the court is yet to determine the merits of the allegations.
