The Nigerian Navy has uncovered an illegal fuel depot and seized about 87,000 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products during an anti-crude oil theft operation in Rivers State.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the operation forms part of the Navy’s sustained efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
Security operatives reportedly discovered the illegal storage facility during a routine operation, where thousands of litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and other petroleum products were recovered.
The Navy stated that the operation was carried out in line with its mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime environment and protect critical national assets from criminal activities.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations against oil thieves and warned individuals involved in illegal refining and petroleum theft to desist or face the full weight of the law.
CDA News Nigeria reports that crude oil theft and illegal refining remain major challenges in the Niger Delta, with security agencies continuing coordinated operations to dismantle illegal facilities and protect the nation’s oil infrastructure.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for operating the illegal depot.
