Over 200 Lecturers Quit Kaduna Varsity, ASUU Issues Strike Ultimatum

KADUNA — More than 200 professors and other academic staff have resigned from Kaduna State University over poor conditions of service and the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that ASUU-KASU chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi, made the disclosure on Monday at a press conference held at the university. He said the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, which provides for improved conditions of service for academic staff, took effect in January 2026 but implementation had yet to commence at KASU .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the union has consequently issued a two-week ultimatum to the university authorities, Governing Council and the Visitor to the university, Governor Uba Sani, to commence the full implementation and domestication of the agreement . Failure to do so, the union warned, could lead to a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike .

The chairman expressed concern that eight months after the agreement was signed, KASU was yet to commence implementation, while almost all federal universities and several state universities had either implemented it or announced timelines . He described the exodus as “frightening,” warning that no university system could survive such a mass departure of experienced academics .

The union’s Congress, at a meeting on August 12, resolved to declare an industrial dispute and embark on a strike in line with the directive of ASUU’s National Executive Council, which met at the University of Abuja on August 8-9 . The union also listed unresolved local issues including university autonomy, promotion arrears, death benefits, and pension remittances .
