Tinubu Allowed Free, Fair Osun Election — Wike

ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party won the recent Osun State governorship election because President Bola Tinubu allowed the process to be free and fair .

Wike made the declaration on Tuesday while inspecting flood-affected areas in the FCT. He dismissed claims that the Federal Government manipulated the August 15 poll, arguing that Tinubu permitted the democratic process to take its course .

“The President called him… congratulating him (Adeleke). What does it tell you? If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!” Wike said .

The minister also pushed back against claims of “federal might” being deployed to influence the election, drawing from his experience of previous electoral contests. “When you say force of the federal government… ask those who have survived it, though—people like me who survived federal might. It’s not by saying ‘they say, they say.’ It’s not true,” he stated .

Wike said if President Tinubu had wanted the APC to win at all costs, the outcome would have been different. “I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do” .

CDA News Nigeria reports that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes . The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.

Turning to 2027, Wike described the opposition as “crippled and depleted,” declaring Tinubu’s re-election would be the easiest contest .
