A former member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2007, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, has declared that Abia Central is the most backward and least developed senatorial district in Abia State .
Speaking during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) critical stakeholders in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Atuma, popularly known as “Kabila,” reminded the stakeholders that they had the right to ask questions and critically assess the performance of previous senators who had represented Abia Central — most of whom have also signified their interest in returning to the Senate .
“Abia Central has suffered decades of neglect despite producing senators who have held office for multiple terms. The zone cannot continue to be the least developed in Abia State,” Atuma told the gathering .
The former lawmaker, who is now seeking to represent Abia Central in the Senate under the APC platform, challenged stakeholders to carefully evaluate his records and achievements alongside those of other aspirants so that they can make a wise choice .
Speaking further, Atuma said his achievements as member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2007 are still standing, and he has continued to maintain the roads he built then till today with zero potholes.
“I built roads during my time that still have no potholes today. I maintained them myself. Let my record be compared with those who have held this position before,” he declared .
The meeting, which was held at the Mbutu residence of Hon. Chief Damian Ozurumba (Tooto), had in attendance Chief Obinna Oriaku, Sir Ebere Nwachukwu, Prof Chris Nwagboso, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu, Chief Uzo Ihuka, Hon Chidi Nwosu (Onye Ama Ama), and others .
Atuma’s declaration adds to the growing list of aspirants eyeing the Abia Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political realignments continue across the state .
