The Imo State Police Command has arrested thirty suspects in a major security operation targeting criminal activities across the state.
According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Henry Okoye, the suspects were apprehended for various offences including armed robbery, car snatching, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms. The operations led by the Quick Intervention Team and Rapid Response Squad also resulted in the recovery of three snatched vehicles, two motorcycles, and a cache of arms and ammunition.
In one notable incident on November 7, police operatives tracked and recovered a stolen Mercedes Benz GLE 350 along Okigwe Road, arresting one suspect who confessed to the crime. The following day, two other stolen vehicles – a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Venza – were recovered in New Owerri.
In a separate operation on November 2, police intercepted two suspected cult members traveling in a commercial bus along Owerri/Aba Road, recovering a locally made double-barrel gun and three live cartridges. The suspects reportedly confessed to belonging to a cult group and claimed they had taken the weapon from a rival group in Aba.
Police say investigations are ongoing to track down additional members of the criminal syndicates.
