Delta Aide Offers ₦500,000 Support, Ambassadorial Deal to Viral UBA Trainee

ASABA — The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Success, has offered ₦500,000 cash support and an ambassadorial deal to the young UBA employee who went viral after addressing the bank’s chairman, Tony Elumelu, by his first name .

Ossai made the offer in a Facebook post on Saturday, describing the public backlash against the young woman as excessive . He said the package would include flight tickets to Asaba, 5-star hotel accommodation, a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State, and VIP access to the fourth Delta Social Media Summit scheduled for August 27, 2026 .

“I know the internet can be harsh. Depression is real, and words cut deep,” Ossai wrote. “She made a mistake, but we don’t need to torment her daily; she needs our support” .

The aide also offered her a brand ambassador role for the annual Delta Social Media Summit platform .

The controversy began after a video from UBA’s Graduate Management Accelerated Programme graduation ceremony showed the trainee greeting Elumelu with “Good morning, Tony” . Elumelu corrected her, stating he preferred to be addressed as “Mr Elumelu” or “TOE,” adding that he does not subscribe to “Oyinbo life” .

The exchange has since sparked a nationwide debate over first-name culture in Nigerian workplaces, with opinions divided on corporate etiquette and cultural respect . Ossai appealed to anyone who knows the woman to ask her to contact him, stating, “Let’s turn this pain into purpose. She won’t be disappointed” .
