The Ogun State APC is embroiled in a bitter internal conflict as governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye challenges Senator Solomon Adeola’s emergence, with the party leadership dismissing Hunye as an impostor.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is facing a deepening internal crisis over its 2027 governorship ticket, as aspirant Abayomi Hunye insists on challenging the process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s candidate .
Hunye, who claims to have paid N50 million for the party’s nomination form and was cleared to contest, has taken the matter to court, arguing that the APC governorship primary was flawed . He alleged that party leaders pressured him to abandon his ambition due to a decision to make Adeola the sole candidate .
However, the APC National Secretariat has dismissed Hunye as an “impostor,” declaring that he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area . The party listed reasons for the suspension as “engaging in activities injurious to the party’s image” and “anti-party activities” .
National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru reaffirmed that Senator Adeola remains the party’s duly nominated candidate, with his name and that of his running mate, Kudirat Balogun, already uploaded to the INEC portal .
The crisis has drawn reactions from student bodies and party chieftains. NANS and NAOSS have backed Adeola, warning Hunye against creating confusion . APC chieftain Kayode Oladele described Hunye’s actions as “vexatious and futile,” arguing that participation in the screening process does not nullify a suspension .
Hunye has warned the crisis could escalate beyond the recent Osun State election turmoil, while insisting he will await the court’s decision .
