A former chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Osi Obirh, has passed away. He died on Monday, September 1, 2026, after a brief illness .
His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the PDP Ward 9 Chairman in Etsako West Local Government Area, Alhaji Muri Yakubu, who described the news as “very sad and unfortunate” .
The late Chief Obirh, a native of Jattu in Etsako West Local Government Area, served as the PDP chairman in Edo State between 2010 and 2011 before the defection of Governor Adams Oshiomhole to the All Progressives Congress (APC) . He also served as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.
Yakubu, who represented the Etsako West PDP chairman, expressed shock over the demise of the party elder and extended condolences to the Obirh family and the PDP community in the state. “On behalf of our chairman, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, leaders, and members of PDP in Ward 9, I am extending our condolences to the entire Obirh family of Jattu and the PDP state chairman, Dr. Tony Azegbemi, over the death of our leader,” he said .
