Navy Arrests Fake Officer, Suspected Robber In Anambra

The Nigerian Navy’s Naval Outpost in Onitsha has arrested a suspected naval impersonator and an alleged armed robber during separate operations at Awkuzu Checkpoint in Anambra State, CDA News Nigeria reports.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the two suspects were arrested on September 5 and have since been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, alongside recovered exhibits, for further investigation.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, the Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost, Commander Kabir Yusuf, said the first suspect, 37-year-old Brooms Anthony of Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, was intercepted around 2 a.m. while travelling from Lagos to Enugu in a Nissan Atlas truck loaded with household items.

According to Yusuf, security operatives discovered Anthony was carrying a fake naval identity card during the stop-and-search.

In a separate operation, naval personnel arrested 36-year-old Christian Ogbole of Onoh Village, Eziagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, over an alleged armed robbery.

Yusuf explained that the arrest followed a report from a trader whose shop had been broken into and valuables stolen by unidentified suspects, after which operatives spotted a Suzuki minibus speeding towards the checkpoint. When the driver allegedly ignored signals to stop, security personnel pursued and intercepted the vehicle.

Both suspects have been transferred to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
