Six Killed, Including Policeman, In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

LAGOS– At least six people, including a police officer, have been confirmed dead after a multiple-vehicle collision on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night and involved five vehicles, including a fuel tanker and a container-laden truck. The collision caused a major fire, with one truck plunging off the bridge into the river below.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, confirmed the death of a police inspector and stated that preliminary investigations pointed to brake failure as the cause of the crash.

The accident led to a massive inferno and completely blocked the highway, causing severe gridlock that stranded commuters for hours. Emergency crews, including officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), worked through the night to clear the wreckage and manage traffic.

This crash comes less than a day after another serious truck accident on the Otedola Bridge, raising renewed concerns about road safety on major Lagos highways.
