Abba Kyari: My Father Left Over 20 Houses In Maiduguri, Court Told

ABUJA – Suspended police officer Abba Kyari testified on Wednesday that his late father left more than 20 houses in Maiduguri for his approximately 30 children.

The former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team made this revelation while being cross-examined by NDLEA counsel Sunday Joseph at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kyari is facing charges for allegedly failing to disclose multi-million naira assets in accordance with the law.

When asked why he didn’t include the properties in his asset declaration form, Kyari stated: “I cannot put my interest about the property in the form because the 20 houses belong to my father and not me. If I get my percentage of share, I can put it but until when I get my own percentage.”

He explained that some properties were sold to fund his father’s medical treatment, and the proceeds were distributed among family members in need.

Kyari admitted he initially refused to fill the asset form without his lawyers present, acknowledging he was told this refusal constituted a criminal offense.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case until November 12 for continuation of cross-examination.
