Trump Grants Pardon to Former Tottenham Owner Joe Lewis

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has issued a pardon to Joe Lewis, the billionaire former majority owner of English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

The 88-year-old British businessman was convicted in 2024 on one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud. According to a White House official, Lewis requested the pardon to be able to receive medical treatment and visit his family in the United States.

Lewis did not contest extradition, pleaded guilty, and paid a $5 million fine in the case, avoiding a prison sentence. He currently resides in the Bahamas.

With a fortune estimated at $6.8 billion, Lewis built his wealth as a currency speculator. His holding company, ENIC, purchased a controlling stake in Tottenham Hotspur in 2001 for $22 million. He formally ceded control of the club to a family trust in 2022.
