Wike Reacts to Rivers Defection, Dismisses France Arrest Rumours

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that the defection of 16 Rivers State lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a direct consequence of deep divisions within the PDP.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Wike stated that the lawmakers acted within their constitutional rights given the party’s current state of “factionalisation.” He, however, affirmed his own loyalty to the PDP, saying, “I am still in the PDP.”

The minister called on the PDP’s national leadership to urgently resolve its internal crisis to prevent further defections, noting that the party still retains about 10 lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Separately, Wike dismissed viral rumours claiming he had been arrested in France, labeling them as politically motivated fabrications designed to distract from his work. He recalled a previous false report about being flown overseas for illness.

“I am doing my job,” Wike asserted, emphasizing that his focus remains on delivering his mandate for President Bola Tinubu.
