The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, declaring it will no longer watch helplessly as insecurity worsens across the country.
Speaking at the opening of its National Executive Council meeting in Lagos, NLC President Joe Ajaero stated that the Congress would announce a national day of mourning and mobilise for nationwide protests in response to the recent spate of kidnappings and attacks.
“We cannot stand idly by and allow criminals to take over our country, never again,” Ajaero declared. He demanded a full investigation into the withdrawal of security operatives from a school prior to a recent kidnapping, alleging possible compromise.
In a related development, the NLC also announced the withdrawal of its representatives from the Labour Party, accusing them of pursuing personal interests.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, who also spoke, warned the country was in “serious trouble” and cautioned against calls for foreign military intervention.
