Nigeria’s new Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (retd), and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, have jointly vowed to take decisive action to defeat terrorism and restore peace and order across the country.
The strong commitments were made on Thursday following General Musa’s swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu. The minister assured Nigerians he would “do whatever it takes” to secure the nation, promising visible results “within the shortest possible time.”
“Security is everybody’s responsibility. It is that synergy we need to build on, and that is exactly what we are going to do,” General Musa stated, outlining his priority to reposition the defence architecture and strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
In a separate address, NSA Ribadu issued a stern warning: “Anyone, individual or group, who exploits communities, spreads terror or attempts to undermine national unity will face coordinated and decisive action.” He highlighted that Nigeria remains the only functioning democracy in the Sahel region, a status that must be protected.
The assurances come amid mixed security news. While five kidnapped students of Rivers State University were successfully rescued, the traditional ruler of Bayagan-Ile in Kwara State remains in captivity five days after his abduction, with his community focused on ransom negotiations.
