Abia 2027 Aspirant Pledges Full Financial Autonomy for Local Governments

ABIA STATE – Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu, an aspirant in the 2027 Abia State gubernatorial race, has outlined a central pillar of his platform: empowering local governments as the primary engine for rural development.

In a published article, Uzor-Kalu emphasized that local governments are the closest tier of governance to the people and are crucial for delivering infrastructure, agricultural support, and social services. He criticized the common practice of state governments withholding council funds, which he stated stalls grassroots progress.

“As governor, I will ensure that every local government receives its full statutory funding and the financial independence required,” Uzor-Kalu pledged. He committed to a system where councils would have the autonomy and resources to implement projects directly, promising not to “withhold or divert local government resources.”

The aspirant’s manifesto highlights infrastructure, agriculture, and transparency as key areas where empowered local councils can transform rural communities and spur economic growth.
